Antiques Gallery Brings
Hungarian Modernism to West
Hollywood Design District
Szalon (pronounced “salon”), a new gallery featuring Hungarian furnishings of the Secessionist (Art Nouveau), Art Deco and Bauhaus eras, will open to the public and the trade on West Hollywood’s famed Avenues of Art and Design. Located in a stunning space framed by decorative grillwork with glamorous Art Deco-influenced interiors, the gallery will present early Modernist furniture and decorative arts imported from Hungary. Brainchild of interior designer Judith Hoffman, Szalon was inspired by visits to her birth- place, Budapest, from which she has been exiled since 1956. Surprised by the wealth of design riches she found across Hungary, which were untapped due to years of Communist domination Hoffman was determined to bring these little-known works to an American audience. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Info: 310.657.0089.
